Your itinerary says Berlin. We’ll make sure you actually see it, and get you back to the ship.

This is a private excursion for your party only, run by Berlin Experiences, a Berlin tour company specialising in private history tours. Your driver meets you at the quay in Warnemünde and drives you to Berlin and back. In Berlin, a licensed Berlin historian-guide joins you and shows you the city.

What the day looks like

The sample day below is for a ship in port from 07:00 to 20:00. We plan your timings around your ship’s real arrival and all-aboard times, and the route around what you want to see: the classic highlights, or one theme done properly.

Sample day: ship in port 07:00–20:00, all aboard 19:30
  1. Meet at the quay

Your driver meets you as you come off the ship, with a sign showing your name.

  2. Drive to Berlin

    About 2 h 15 min, mostly autobahn.

  3. Your guide joins you: the government quarter

The Reichstag, the Chancellery and the river Spree, then through the Brandenburg Gate.

  4. Memory and the Third Reich

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the site of Hitler's bunker and the former Air Ministry.

  5. Lunch

A quick, good lunch somewhere we know will serve you on time.

  6. The Wall and the Cold War

Checkpoint Charlie, a surviving stretch of the Wall, and the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Strasse.

  7. Old Berlin

Gendarmenmarkt, Bebelplatz and the book-burning memorial, Museum Island and Berlin Cathedral.

  8. Back to the ship

Your guide says goodbye, and your driver takes you back to Warnemünde.

  9. Back at the quay

An hour before all-aboard at 19:30.

That’s about six hours in Berlin, enough for the government quarter, the Holocaust Memorial, the Wall and old Berlin at a sensible pace. A ship in port from 07:00 to 19:00 leaves about five hours: the same route, a little faster, or one theme in depth. Longer calls mean more time in the city. Check your hours with the calculator.

Choose your focus

  • Berlin highlights: the classic route above, for first-timers.
  • The Wall and the Cold War: Bernauer Strasse, Checkpoint Charlie, the Palace of Tears at Friedrichstrasse and the longest surviving stretch of Wall.
  • The Third Reich and the Second World War: the sites of power, persecution and the battle for the city in 1945, from the historian behind battleofberlin.com.

Price

€1,700 per group of up to six for the Berlin highlights, and €2,000 for a themed day (the Wall and the Cold War, or the Third Reich). Both include VAT, the van, driver, guide, fuel, tolls and insurance.

If your ship is late, or the call is cancelled

If the ship or the traffic runs late

If your ship arrives late, we wait for you, and shorten the time in Berlin to protect your return. We plan the drive back with an hour's buffer before all-aboard and watch the traffic all day. If we ever make you miss the ship, we'll help arrange your travel to the next port.

If the call is cancelled, or you cancel

You can cancel up to one month before your tour date for a 75% refund: the tour price minus a 25% administration charge. If your ship's call is cancelled, you can move your booking to another date free of charge, or have a full refund.

Is a private tour right for you?

It’s the best way to see a lot of Berlin with a small group and a real expert. It isn’t the cheapest, and unlike the cruise line’s own tours, the ship doesn’t wait for independent excursions. If that worries you, read our honest comparison of every option.
