Plenty of cruises begin or end within reach of Berlin. Warnemünde is about two and a half hours away by road, Hamburg under two hours by high-speed train, and Elbe river cruises start or finish in the city itself. A night or two in Berlin turns a rushed port day into a proper visit.
Who this is for
- Embarking or disembarking in Warnemünde, Hamburg or Kiel and flying through Berlin.
- River cruise guests with hotel nights in Berlin or a free day before boarding.
- Anyone who did Berlin in five hours on a port day and wants to come back for the rest.
Our private tours
All our tours, with prices and online booking, are on berlinexperiences.com. Booking options and cancellation terms are on our booking options page.
All tours are private, for your party only, with a licensed Berlin historian-guide. We pick you up from your hotel.
Planning your days
- One day: the highlights in the morning, one theme in depth in the afternoon (the Wall, or the Third Reich).
- Two days: add Potsdam: Sanssouci and the Cecilienhof, where the Potsdam Conference decided Germany’s postwar fate in 1945.
- Before you book anything, check Berlin Is Closed: several major museums and landmarks are under long renovations.
Getting to the ship
- To Warnemünde: about 3 hours 10 minutes by train from Berlin Hauptbahnhof, with a change in Rostock (2026 timetable), or about two and a half hours by road; many cruise lines also sell transfers.
- To Hamburg: ICE trains take under two hours and run about every 30 minutes. Check which of Hamburg’s three cruise terminals you sail from.
- To Kiel: allow about four hours by train with one change.
